In this photograph we are seeing Kati Thanda - Lake Eyre from the skies, early on a mid-winter morning. This photograph is from a roll of 35mm film. At its lowest point Kati Thanda is 15 metres below sea level - we are seeing the point that the water from the North is filling up the basin.
Kati Thanda is a literal invitation to step into a deeper realm. The horizonless horizon disappears into a mirage and it feels there is nothing beyond but the absolute. The act of staring into the absolute is an invitation to open ourselves to the potential of that which exists beyond the frame.
From the Salt exhibition (2023). Hanging here at Messums West (UK).
