DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

"As a first nations woman of colour -I was born political and my body holds that; the way that this has manifested is through my dance practice traditional & contemporary.
Working with 4 of Australia's best dancers - I will be choreographing 4 solos focusing on what it is that politicicizes their dance practice and body/person.
Each of these Artists is from an incredibly diverse background and community - that is unique to Australia. While their stories have a universal feel in the underlay, each of them has a strong connection to place/displacement within this country and in many ways has had to fight to maintain and know what that is. Within each of these solos I want to capture that resilience.
A mature cinematographic approach is important in capturing these solos. A natural, handheld vérité look. It’s unguarded, honest and in the moment – more true to life and our senses. We’re handheld and reactionary – embracing a floating naturalism in the camera movement." Amrita Hepi
